In line with current advice from the government on Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have cancelled all of our events and volunteer tasks. Our public toilets are also closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconveniences.

Please remain at least 2 meters apart from other site users and follow the government orders which are available from the GOV.UK website.

We also ask that you please take all litter and dog waste home to dispose of.

Kenley Common is a 56 hectare (139 acre) public open space located in the London Borough of Croydon. It forms part of a larger area of open countryside, within the London Green belt, that links London with the wider countryside of Surrey.

Kenley Common lies in the North Downs Natural Area and is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (Metropolitan grade) for its grassland habitats. With its mosaic of chalk, neutral and acid grasslands as well as ancient woodland and scrub, this site provides a fantastic home for wildlife, as well a quiet place for people to enjoy.

Kenley Common surrounds Kenley Airfield which is owned by the Ministry of Defence and used by the Royal Air Force for glider training. Kenley Airfield is the UK's most complete surviving Battle of Britain airfield and the common holds seven World War II fighter pens which are designated as a Scheduled Monument. To protect and preserve the heritage of the site but also to engage with the local community the Kenley Revival Project was launched in cooperation with the Heritage Lottery Foundation, Historic England and the Kenley Airfield Friends Group.

The completeness of the airfield, the history of which is closely bound up with Kenley Common, makes this a site of national historical significance.
